The people who live in countries that border the Mediterranean Sea have a significantly decreased incidence of heart disease, chronic diseases, and cancer, and the highest adult life-expectancy rate. All of these health benefits even though the traditional Mediterranean diet contains 40% of total daily calories from fat. How is this possible?

Olive oil, a staple of a Mediterranean diet, is a monosaturated fatty acid and counteracts animal fats. This type of fat does not raise blood cholesterol levels and is an excellent source of antioxidants. Monounsaturated fats are, in fact, required for the body in order to function effectively.

Here is a very simple safe weight reduction tip that really works and is enjoyable.

1) Before every meal take an 8 oz glass of water and add to the juice from one half of a fresh squeezed lemon. If a fresh lemon is not available about two tablespoons of lemon juice concentrate will do.

2) Add a small amount of stevia to taste. Stevia is a natural sweetener that is actually good for you. Stevia can be purchased from just about any health food store. Although it is a little pricey, it last a long time.

It also has zero calories. Stevia also has been known to reduce the formation of plaque on your teeth. You can also use stevia as a sugar substitute in just about anything, and this alone will save a bunch of calories. (more…)
