cayenne-pepper.JPGCayenne is best known as a spice that is used to bring up the heat in spicy foods. As the popularity of herbal supplements grows, cayenne has been appearing more often in weight loss aids. Studies have shown it may help the body burn fat and reduce appetite.

The active compound in cayenne is a substance called capsaicin. It has long been know to relieve pain and itching when applied topically by disabling the pain neurotransmittors. It also promotes digestive and heart health and is high in antioxidents.

Eating Slowly Inhibits Appetite

For decades dieters have been told to eat slowly to help them lose weight and it seemed to work. Until now, however, there has been no scientific evidence to explain why eating slowly seemed to help individuals eat less and reduce fat.

In a recent study, 30 women were given a large plate of pasta and told to eat as much as they wanted. In the first trial, they were told to eat quickly and consumed over 640 calories in only nine minutes.

Carbohydrates come from a wide array of foods - bread, pasta, fruits, doughnuts, ice creams and pie. Carbohydrates refer to a group of molecules that is made up of small sugar units composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

They are needed by the body and therefore included in our diet as a major source of energy. Some carbohydrates are simple and are made up of small units of sugars while others are made up of several units of sugar arranged in chains or branches. A healthy diet cannot go without these molecules.
